Descriptive Note Text

This postcard, commemorating Móric Pogány and Emil Töry, architects of the Hungarian Pavilion, presents a stylized and imaginative depiction of both the pavilion and Valentino Park. Its formal qualities—marked by sinuous lines and a vivid chromatic scheme dominated by deep violets and oranges—are characteristic of the Hungarian variant of Art Nouveau. This aesthetic idiom drew extensively on vernacular traditions, including folk motifs, rural craftsmanship, and perceived Eastern cultural inheritances, which were mobilized to articulate a distinct and cohesive national identity.
