Descriptive Note Text
This postcard belongs to a series dedicated to the Hungarian Pavilion and its architects, Móric Pogány and Emil Töry, whose work exemplified the synthesis of national identity and modern design at the turn of the twentieth century. In the foreground, a stylized figure standing in boat is oriented toward the Pavilion, thus guiding the viewer’s gaze toward the architectural centerpiece.
The image is distinguished by its reliance on stylized forms and a highly saturated chromatic scheme, characterized by intense purples, deep ochre, bright greens, and luminous yellows. These formal and chromatic choices are emblematic of early twentieth-century Hungarian decorative arts, which drew upon vernacular motifs while engaging with broader currents of Art Nouveau and Secessionist aesthetics.
