This photograph captures the Padiglione dei Pompieri e della Polizia urbana (the Pavilion of the Firemen and the Municipal Police), a two-story pavilion. The facade has three main parts. The central block sits slightly forward of the wings. Its upper floor has three tall round-arched windows, separated by engaged columns with ornate capitals. A dense band of molded stucco decoration, with swags, cartouches, and foliate motifs, runs above the arches. A deep, projecting cornice crowns the block, and above it sits a large scallop-shell crest flanked by small domed turrets. The side wings are lower and set back. Their upper floors have rectangular, multi-paned windows framed by columns, with decorative balcony railings beneath. Each wing has its own wide overhanging cornice and a smaller shell ornament on the roofline. The ground floor is lined with large windows topped by draped floral garlands. To the far right, a lower colonnaded wing or arcade extends off the main building. Tall, needle-like spires or finials rise from the corners and the crest.
