Descriptive Note Text

This photo postcard shows three interconnected buildings. On the left, labeled Radiotelegrafia, is the radio-telegraphy pavilion. Its large arched doorway is filled with a tall iron grille, and the façade is heavily ornamented in the exposition’s eclectic, late-Baroque revival style, with scrolled cartouches, garlands, a broken pediment, and sculptural finials along the roofline. A tall utility pole stands in front of it, with wires crossing the scene. In the center is the pavilion labeled Posta Pneumatica, the pneumatic post. This system sent letters through pressurized tubes. It is a smaller white building with an arched entrance, a gabled front, and a pointed spire topped by a flag. On the right, labeled Commis. Esec. (Commissione Esecutiva, the Executive Committee), is a longer white building with arcaded windows, pilasters, and several towers and spires flying flags. It recedes into the distance among trees and street lamps.

The postcard was dated July 27, 1911 and mailed to Rome.
