Descriptive Note Text
This black-and-white postcard shows the "Padiglioni degli uffici pubblici e della Commissione esecutiva” (Pavilions of the Public Offices and of the Executive Commission).
The ornate pavilion displays the eclectic, Baroque-revival style typical of the exposition’s temporary architecture. It has tall arched entrances filled with decorative grillwork, heavy cornices, a balustrade, and extensive sculptural ornament, including scrolls, cartouches, and what appears to be a coat of arms over the central arch. A small cupola sits on the roof. Several Italian tricolor flags with the Savoy cross fly from tall poles above and beside it. Behind it, more pavilions extend along the avenue to the right. At the base of the building on the left, a wooden ladder or scaffolding suggests finishing work was still underway when the photo was taken.
The postcard was mailed on October 7, 1911, to a recipient in the town of Cassine in the province of Alessandria.
