Descriptive Note Text
This black-and-white photograph depicts the "Tempio dell'Acqua" (Temple of Water), a kiosk representing the Vichy-État company at the Exposition of Turin 1911.
The structure is a circular neoclassical rotunda featuring a colonnade of tall Corinthian or Ionic columns arranged in a ring. A low dome crowns the rotunda, with ornamental detailing running along its drum. Visible within the colonnade is a the sculpture of a maiden carrying an amphor — an allegorical figure likely representing youth, purity and health — themes closely tied to Vichy's identity as a celebrated spa city. Decorative urns on pedestals flank the base of the structure, and a set of steps leads up to the entrance, reinforcing its temple-like grandeur.
A uniformed attendant stands to the right of the structure, offering a sense of its considerable scale.
