Descriptive Note Text

The small Pavilion of the Istituto Geografico De Agostini was located on the left side of the Corso Raffaello entrance to the Exposition. The building was crowned by a large metal sculpture of the Earth, and two other globes graced the building next to the two entrances. The main salon displayed various atlases published by the Istituto and a large selection of maps (physical, metereological, nautical, commercial, geological etc.).  In another salon, a relief map of Italy created by Cavalier Domenico Locchi could be admired from a circular platform.

The  Istituto Geografico De Agostini was founded in 1901 in Rome by cartographer Giovanni De Agostini. In 1908 the Istituto moved to Novara, in the Piedmont region of Italy.
