Descriptive Note Text

This black and white photo postcard shows the opening ceremony of the turin 1911 exposition. The photo is taken from an elevated vantage point looking down over a grand interior hall. A vast crowd of men in formal evening dress fill the lower portion of the frame. Above, in a gallery level, additional spectators (including women, visible by hats and parasols) look down on the proceedings.

The hall features an ornate classical interior with a row of columns along an upper gallery, and decorative relief panels or friezes running along the balustrade.
