Descriptive Note Text
This patriotic postcard was designed by artist Giovanni Battista Carpanetto. It displays an allegorized image of Italy, represented as a woman holding the Italian flag and protectively bending over a young male figure holding a round shield and the Savoy flag. The male figure represents the city of Turin or region of Piedmont, as demonstrated by the bull (toro) on the shield. In the background, a martial figure on horseback harkens back to Rome's imperial legacy.
