Descriptive Note Text

This postcard displays one of the most daring fashion statements of the Exposition of Turin 1911, the "jupe culotte" designed by French couturier Paul Poiret. In the background we see the Pavilion of France. Local papers wrote that in the early evening of May 31, 1911, a young lady wore this attire under the arcades of Piazza Carlo Felice, near the train Station of Porta Nuova, creating such surprise and confusion among the passerbys that she was forced to hide in a perfume shop and then escape from an exit in the rear of the building.

This postcard was mailed to Cuneo, Italy, on April 22, 1911.

Jupe Culotte is also the title of a musical piece of the Album musicale.
