Descriptive Note Text

This photograph shows the Talmone kiosk, identified in the original Italian as a "Casa Egiziana" (Egyptian House), captured during its construction phase.

In this image, the building's basic massing is already in place, including the stepped, tower-like upper section that would later feature the Egyptian Revival detailing described in earlier photographs, but the façade itself is still bare and unfinished. Extensive wooden scaffolding, including a tall ladder, covers the lower portion of the structure, indicating that workers were actively applying the plaster cladding and decorative elements that would eventually transform the building into its finished Egyptian-style appearance. The upper cornice area appears closer to completion, with some of the projecting, temple-like detailing already visible, while the window openings below remain plain rectangular voids without their final ornamentation.

In the foreground, several "gendarmi" stand in loose formation on the open ground in front of the building. They were likely temporarily stationed to guard the site during a period of labor unrest in March 1911.
