Descriptive Note Text

This printed illustration depicts the kiosk for Strega liqueur, produced by G. Alberti of Benevento.

The kiosk featured an ornate Baroque style and was topped with a tall, decorative finial in the form of a weathervane or banner-bearing spike, which rose above a domed roof rendered with a scalloped, shell-like texture. Below the dome, the building's façade was organized around a large central arched niche, and this central arch was flanked by a pair of smaller arched openings on either side, each set within its own decorative frame.

The branding is worked directly into the architecture: an oval medallion at the top of the facade reads "LIQUORE STREGA," and the names "G. ALBERTI" and "BENEVENTO" appear in smaller plaques to either side of it, making clear that the entire structure functions as a piece of advertising architecture for the liqueur. Within the central arched recess, rows of bottles appear to be displayed on tiered shelving, suggesting the kiosk served as a point-of-sale or showcase display for the product itself. The lower portion of the building also features pilasters and decorative scrollwork typical of the eclectic, highly ornamented pavilion style favored by commercial exhibitors at the fair.
