Descriptive Note Text

his black-and-white archival photograph depicts the Chiosco Strega Alberti. The kiosk is designed in an ornate Baroque or Rococo-revival style. The structure is crowned by a dramatically curved, broken pediment adorned with heavy scrollwork and volutes, and it appears to feature a central cartouche or coat-of-arms motif at its peak, flanked by urn-shaped finials.

At the center of the façade is a tall, deeply recessed archway containing glazed entrance doors, and this archway is topped by a fan-shaped lunette window with muntins arranged in a radiating pattern. The kiosk also includes two smaller flanking bays, each with its own arched opening, which together give the building a tripartite composition reminiscent of a small chapel. Nearly every surface of the façade is covered in rich stucco ornamentation, including scrolls, swags, and decorative moldings.

A staircase with a balustrade leads up to the entrance, and slender flagpoles rise on either side of the steps. Potted palms and other ornamental plants line the base of the structure and the staircase, while mature trees are visible in the background. A man stands near the entrance, and his presence helps convey the modest scale of the kiosk.
