Descriptive Note Text
This black-and-white photo postcard provides a rare lateral view of the Monumental Bridge. One can see the caryatids created by Giovanni Battista Alloati, as well as the tall pillars with the Winged Victories created by sculptor Francesco Sassi. The Water Castle featured two towers, 80 meters high. In the middle of the structure there was an impressive statue, placed in a big niche, symbolizing the homeland, executed as a real-scale model by sculptor Luigi Contratti.
One of the vaporini transporting fairgoers across the river Po is visible here, advertizing the Talmone chocolate company, which had a kiosk at the Exposition.
