Descriptive Note

After graduating with a degree in Letters in 1896, Enrico Thovez began writing poetry, publishing his first known idylls in loose hendecasyllables in the Gazzetta letteraria to which he also contributed as literary critic. Having established his credentials within the literary establishment thorugh the Gazzetta, Thovez became a regular contributor on literary topics to several daily newspapers, including the Gazzetta del Popolo (Turin), the Corriere della Sera (Milan) and Il Resto del Carlino (Bologna). In 1904-05, he joined the staff of La Stampa (Turin) as a contributing editor under the pseudonym "Simplicissimus."

In 1902, with Leonardo Bistolfi, Giorgio Ceragioli, Enrico Reycend and Davide Calandra, Thovez founded the periodical magazine L'arte decorativa moderna.

Thovez was also a painter, and in 1901 he exhibited his "Ritratto della madre" at the "Società Promotrice delle Belle Arti" in Turin. Between 1913 and 1921 he served as the director of the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporane di Torino.

Thovez wrote some pieces in L' Esposizione di Torino: Giornale ufficiale illustrato dell'esposizione internazionale delle industrie e del lavoro 1911.
