Descriptive Note
Angiolo Del Santo attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara. From 1909 to 1917 he lived in Turin and worked at the studio of sculptor Leonardo Bistolfi (1859-1933). In the 1920s Del Santo moved back to his hometown of La Spezia, while continuing to collaborate with Bistolfi. He created the marble decorations for the facade of the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, as well as numerous other works such as a monument to Nicolò Paganini (1935) and the Monumento ai Caduti, (1923) in La Spezia.
On the occasion of the 1911 Exposition, he created the sculptural groups at the basis of the columns that held the Winged Victories by Francesco Sassi.
