This postcard advertizes Revillon Frères, a French fur and luxury goods company, which was established in Paris in 1723 with branches in London, New York City, and Montreal. By 1911, Revillon Frères had fur trading posts in Russia, Siberia, Mongolia, Turkestan, and North America, and was one of the the largest fur company in the world.
The postcard, designed for the 1911 Exposition in Turin, presents elegant men and women dressed in furcoats attending the Opéra-Comique, in Paris. The Opéra-Comique was founded around 1714. In 1762 the company was merged with the Comédie-Italienne at the Hôtel de Bourgogne. It was also called the Théâtre-Italien up to about 1793, when it again became most commonly known as the Opéra-Comique.
