Descriptive Note Text

This black-and-white photo postcard shows the Pavilion of Turkey.  Detaching itself from the neo-baroque style that marked the Exposition, the Pavilion of Turkey was designed by architect Léon Gurekian in a Moorish revival style. The Pavilion shows typical Islamic designs, such as the multifoil arches of the main portal and windows, and the intricate latticework gracing the balconies and roof.  We imagine that the tilework on the building's facade displayed the vivid colors that characterized Islamic ceramics.
