Descriptive Note Text
This black-and-white photo postcard shows a view of the impressive facade of the Pavilion of Germany from the river Po. We can see the Pavilion's main dome with the Imperial German Crown at the top, and the Pavilion's two wings with with pediments, columns, and cupolas. The advertisment for the Münchener Bürgerbräu is visible on the river's embankment. Münchener Bürgerbräu was a large Munich brewery which also had numerous beer halls, including the Bürgerbräukeller, where the 1923 attempted Hitler coup started on Nov. 9, 1923. The Pavilion of Germany hosted a restaurant and beer hall.
The postcard, with the handwritten date of October 5, 1911, was mailed to Rio Cuarto, Argentina.
