Descriptive Note Text

This photograph, captioned "Un effetto di tramonto sul monumento Amedeo e sul Palazzo dell'Elettricità" (A sunset effect on the Amedeo monument and the Palazzo dell'Elettricità), captures Calandra's equestrian monument to Prince Amedeo and the Palazzo dell'Elettricità (Palace of Electricity) forming the architectural backdrop. The building presents a long, symmetrical facade organized around a dominant central pavilion, distinguished by a tall segmental or domed cupola with a lantern and flagstaff, flanked by lower recessed wings. Round-arched openings at ground level are framed by pilasters and surmounted by a balustraded parapet, echoing the Baroque Revival vocabulary seen in the fair's other pavilions.

Subsidiary end pavilions, each with their own smaller domed or turreted profile, bookend the composition and give the roofline a rhythmic, punctuated silhouette against the sky, an effect clearly heightened here by the photographer's choice to shoot at sunset with a dramatic, textured cloud cover. Figures strolling along the basin's edge give a sense of scale.
