Descriptive Note Text
This photograph, captioned "La Sezione Svizzera" (The Swiss Section), shows the Swiss machinery gallery. The photo is likely taken from an elevated mezzanine looking down the length of the hall.
The architectural character is consistent with an exhibition machine hall, emphasizing the engineered, unornamented nature of the building relative to the more decorative pavilions elsewhere on the fairgrounds.
A large ornamental clock is mounted prominently on the end wall near the top of the hall. The hall is organized with a central circulation aisle flanked by rows of exhibition stands. From this higher vantage, the density of the machinery displays is more apparent: rows of industrial equipment, including what look like engines, tanks, and metal fabrication tools, are arranged in bays along both sides, with a slight secondary aisle or mezzanine walkway visible on the right side, elevated above the ground floor and accessed by a ladder, suggesting the exhibition made use of multiple levels to display goods or allow overhead viewing.
National and commercial signage, including a Swiss flag and cross motifs and advertising banners for various exhibitors, is hung from the structure and mounted along the side walls.
