Descriptive Note Text
This image is a printed engraving or architectural illustration of the Martell Cognac kiosk.
The illustration renders the building in a more graphic style than contemporary photographs, with crosshatching and fine line work used to suggest stone texture and shadow. The composition shows the kiosk's tall, needle-like spire rising from a turret, which in turn sits atop a base level featuring a large central arched entrance flanked by smaller arches. Decorative pinnacles and finials line the roofline of the lower section, and the structure is flanked symmetrically by tall trees on either side. A few small human figures are sketched near the entrance, which provides a sense of scale.
