Descriptive Note
Giacomo Gorrini was a historian and diplomat. He received a laurea in Letters and Philosophy from the Accademia scientifico-letteraria of Milan in 1882. He pursued specializations at the Istituto di Studi Superiori in Florence and the University of Berlin. He was then appointed as the Director of the Archivi del ministero degli affari esteri. In 1892 he obtained an additional degree in Jurisprudence from the University of Naples and in 1894 was appointed to the chair of Modern History at the Istituto di studi superiori in Florence and then, in 1900, at the University of Rome. In 1910 he became the Italian Ambassador in Turkey. In 1915, he returned to Rome due to the war against the Ottoman Empire and resumed his service for the Ministero degli affari esteri. A prolific author, Gorrini wrote the catalogue La Russie d'aujourd'hui et les intérets italiens. La section russe à l'exposition internationale de Turin en 1911.
