Descriptive Note

Chiarina Fino Savio was a mezzo-soprano and voice teacher. She debuted in Turin in 1899 as Olga in Fedora and went on to specialize in the works of Monteverdi and Respighi and Perosi. Respighi, in particular, was inspired by Chiarina Fino Savio, to whom he dedicated Il tramonto (The Sunset). Written in 1914, the cantata takes as its text a translation of a poem by Shelley. The poem tells of a pair of lovers, separated by the early death of the young man. 

She performed at the Turin 1911 World's Fair as a soloist during the symphonic concert held at the Pavilion of Festival and Concerts on May 15, 1911.
