Descriptive Note
Giuseppe Depanis obtained a degree in jurisprudence at the University of Turin but never practiced the law. He devoted his life to his passion, music. From 1884 he was part of the board of directors of the Istituto musicale of Turin and led the Società dei concerti. He founded the Società di musica da camera. He also held public posts in the city government of Turin. He managed the Teatro Regio with his father, a theatre impresario. He wrote music criticism for La Stampa and La Gazzetta letteraria as well as numerous other publications including biographies of important composers.
He was an admirer of Wagner, whose works he brought to Turin.
On the occasion of the 1911 Exposition, he organzied the Season of Symphonic Concerts at the Padiglione delle Feste e dei Concerti.
