Descriptive Note
Guido Bianconi studied at the Istituto d'Arte of Siena from 1888 to 1902 and was influenced by the Art Nouveau style. After moving to Turin in 1902-3 he began to work with sculptor Leonardo Bistolfi. Like Bistolfi, he created numerous funerary works, such as the monument for Gemma Raimondi which included an epitaph written by Giovanni Pascoli. With these works, he moved away from Art Nouveau towards classical forms. In Vercelli he completed a monument devoted to Carlo Alberto and a number of bas-reliefs for several family tombs in the cemeteries of Siena, Turin, and Monza.
On the occasion of Turin 1911 he was invited to work on the Pavilion of Festivals and Concerts; where, with sculptor Cesare Biscarra, he designed the huge quadrigas gracing the main facade.
