Descriptive Note Text

This black-and white-photo postcard shows the long, straight temporary bridge to the Pilonetto exhbits. This bridge is lined on both sides with a regular row of tall lampposts. At the far end of the bridge, closest to the viewer, the walkway opens into a paved plaza where the promenade splits into radiating diagonal paths, forming a formal, symmetrical garden layout organized around triangular planting beds. Each of these beds is edged with low plantings and dotted with additional lampposts, and the overall design reflects the kind of axial, geometric landscape planning, creating dramatic sightlines toward major buildings. Numerous pedestrians can be seen walking along the bridge and plaza.
