Descriptive Note Text

This postcard reproduces a watercolor of the Sodium nitrate kiosk. Sodium nitrate is an alkali metal nitrate salt that is commonly known as Chile saltpeter because large deposits of sodium nitrate were historically mined almost exclusively from the Atacama desert in northern Chile. The kiosk was located in the Pilonetto area, next to the Agricolture Pavilion.

The postcard was mailed to Caserta, Italy, on June 6, 1911.
