Descriptive Note Text

This color postcard depicts the kiosk of the French insurance company L'Union. The kiosk reproduced the Pavilion of Music, in the Petit Trianon in the gardens of Versailles. In 1758, Louis XV commissioned Ange-Jacques Gabriel, first architect to the King, to build a pavilion large enough for himself and his entourage. With the Petit Trianon, Gabriel created an example of the Greek neoclassical style that would become very popular in Europe at the time.

The kiosk was located in the gardens of the French section.
