Descriptive Note

Federico Bufaletti studied at the Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Verdi in Milan and the Conservatorio San Pietro in Maiella in Naples.

He started his career as professional pianist in Bologna in 1884, and executed concerts in France (Nice, Marseille, Paris, Bordeaux, etc.), Greece, Turkey, Spain, Switzerland, and Portugal. In 1892, Bufaletti settled in Turin where he taught piano at the local liceo musicale until 1932.

He founded and directed the Società di musica da camera (Chamber Music Society) which hosted important artists such as Pablo Casals, Joseph and Joachim, Eugène-Auguste Ysaye. In 1924 he took part in a successful year-long tour in Latin America.  

Bufaletti was one of the most sought-after interpreters of Claude Debussy's piano pieces, especially the Suite Bergamasque, Images, Estampes, Arabesques, and Rêverie.

On the occasion of the Exposition of Turin 1911, Maestro Bufaletti directed a concert in the Salone delle Feste, Pavilion of Festivals and Concerts on October 14, 1911 with music by Mozart, Rabaud, Rogier-Ducasse, and Rossini.
