Descriptive Note
Joseph Eugène Ewald attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris from 1868 to 1870 and then from 1871 to 1874. He served in various posts as government architect (architect of the Police Prefecture; architect of the diocese of Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales, 1880), of Mende (Lozère, 1887), of Blois (1905). Following the law of separation of church and state, he joined the service of Historic Monuments. He worked on the church of Saint-François de Sales in Paris in 1912-13, church of Pezilla (Pyrénées-Orientales), chapel of the Blessed Sacrament and chapel of the Saint-Louis de Gonzague high school in Perpignan. He also designed villas, bathing establishments, factories, apartment buildings, and private buildings.
The Compagnie d'Assurances "L'Union" Kiosk at the Exposition of Turin 1911 is attributed to him.
