Descriptive Note
André Metthey was a painter, sculptor, ceramist, and interior designer. For his ceramics he favored earthenware, which allows decoration and glazes to rest upon the surface. He opened a ceramic studio in 1901 in Asnières producing work inspired by Japanese, Korean, as well as Persian, Islamic and Ancient Mesopotamian designs.
His vases were displayed in the Maison Paquin kiosk at the Exposition of Turin 1911.
