Our paper 3D WebGIS for Ephemeral Architecture Documentation and Studies in the Humanities has been published in Heritage (MDPI), as part of the Special Issue on Innovative Systems and Methodologies for Monitoring and Valorization of Cultural Heritage. Check it out here.

Discover how our research fills a crucial gap in the documentation and visualization of ephemeral Cultural Heritage, particularly World’s Fairs architecture, on a global scale. We introduce a pioneering approach utilizing WebGIS, rarely explored in this domain before. Unlike traditional usage, our WebGIS doesn't just communicate research findings but becomes an integral tool for its development and maintenance.

Through the Turin 1911 project, we present a comprehensive procedure for creating, implementing, and maintaining a WebGIS platform tailored for ephemeral architectural documentation, discussing the fragility of digital platforms and hot to solve it. Our study unveils a novel 2D/3D WebGIS coupled with a dedicated website, facilitating constant updates on research data from the Turin 1911 International Exposition.

Join us in recognizing the transformative potential of WebGIS, not just as an information-sharing medium, but as a dynamic platform for conducting digital humanities studies in immersive 3D environments.
