Descriptive Note Text
The region of England is currently part of United Kingdome of Great Britain and Northen Ireland since 1922. The newly formed Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707 paved the way for the establishment of the British Empire. Following the defeat of Napoleonic France in 1815, Britain enjoyed a century of almost unchallenged dominance, and expanded its imperial holdings across the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, India, North America and only successively, South Africa. The growth of Germany and the United States had eroded Britain's economic lead by the end of the 19th century. Subsequent military and economic tensions between Britain and Germany were major causes of the First World War, during which Britain relied heavily upon its Empire.
