Descriptive Note Text
Genoa, which forms the southern corner of the Milan-Turin-Genoa industrial triangle of north-west Italy, is one of the country’s major economic centers. On the Gulf of Genoa in the Ligurian Sea, Genoa is currently the busiest port in Italy and in the Mediterranean Sea.
In 1860, Giuseppe Garibaldi set out from Genoa with over a thousand volunteers to begin the campaign for the unification of Italy under the Savoy crown. Today a monument is set on the rock from which the group departed.
