Descriptive Note Text

This patriotic postcard shows allegorized figures of the three Italian capital cities: Turin on the left side, Rome in the center, and Florence on the right side of the picture. A shield with the bull of Turin is visible of the lower left side of the postcard and one with the lily of Florence on the lower right side. The She-Wolf is embroidered on the corset of the woman representing Rome.

"Florence" holds a portrait of Leonardo da Vinci, a reference to the art of portraiture exhibits that were held in that city as part of the 1911 exposition, while "Turin" holds a wheel, symbolizing the mechanical and industrial exhibits hosted in Turin. "Rome" holds a Winged Victory.

Behind the three women are meaningful local landmarks on the rivers Po and Arno (for Turin and Florence, respectfully) while the Altare della Patria represents Rome in the center of the postcard.

The back of the postcard shows a black-and-white image of Castel Gandolfo in Rome and a stamp of the Cosmopolitan Correspondence Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While showing handwritten greetings in English, the postcard was never mailed.
