Descriptive Note Text
This black-and-white photo postcards shows the Pavilion of the City of Paris. This Pavilion was part of the large French section of the Exposition and was especially interesting for its retrospective suggestions as it reproduced the architectonic features of the Palace of Versailles. The Pavilion was built next to the Monumental Bridge, right across from the Pavilion of France on the opposite side of the bridge. Mirroring each other at the very heart of the Exhibition, these pavilions emphasized the cultural and economic influence of France over Italy, and especially Turin, in 1911.
Here we can see the stairs to the Monumental Bridge and the tall pillars with Francesco Sassi's WInged Visctories at the top.
