Belgium is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy in Northwestern Europe. It is bordered by the Netherlands to the north, Germany to the east, Luxembourg to the southeast, France to the south, and the North Sea to the west
Belgium became an independent country following the 1830 Belgian Revolution. The first country in continental Europe to become industrialized, Belgium possessed several colonies, such as Belgian Congo and Ruanda-Urundi, at the time of the Turin 1911 Exposition. These colonies gained independence between 1960 and 1962.
