Descriptive Note Text

This black-and-white photo postcard shows the imposing facade of the Pavilion of Russia, with one of the turrets of the Medieval Rocca showing in the back and one of the vaporetti passing along the river.

The Pavillion of Russia was designed by Russian architect Vladimir Alekseevič Ščuko. Neoclassical in style, the Pavilion featured 12 exposition rooms, where Russia displayed traditional and industrial products, an enormous collection of statues and bronzes, and also some furniture from the Royal Palace of Saint Petersburg.
