Descriptive Note Text

This postcard reproduces a watercolor by painter Carlo Cussetti. Cussetti captured the Pavilion's of Germany's impressive facade on the river Po.  One can see the main dome of the Pavilion, with the German imperial crown at the top.  Agile gondolas glide along the river, carrying elegant fairgoers, as other visitors stroll and linger on the terrace on the opposite side of the river.  The postcard renders the feeling of collective leisure and bourgeois comfort that the Turin Exposition strove to convey.

The postcard was mailed on June 29, 1911, to Lausanne, Switzerland.
